Tooth discoloration varies in etiology, appearance, location, severity, and adherence to tooth structure. It can be classified as intrinsic, extrinsic and a combination of both. Tooth whitening can be performed externally, called night guard whitening or vital teeth whitening, or intracoronally on endodontically treated teeth, called non-vital teeth whitening.
